Here's How Wyckoff Got Discount Rates On Fire Equipment

A partnership with Franklin Lakes and Oakland has proven beneficial, and the Township Committee is looking for ways to expand.

WYCKOFF, NJ — The Township Committee awarded contracts to eight vendors to replace worn gear for the Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, and Oakland Shared Services Group.

Items like firefighting helmets, gloves, boots, fire hoses, emergency flares and fire hooks were purchased at discount volume pricing thanks to the Shared Services Group's pooling of resources.

Wyckoff acted as the lead agency, and prepared a bid specification with fire equipment requirements for 118 items, and all contract awards were made to vendors with the lowest individual unit price, the committee announced.

It's the fifth consecutive year the FLOW towns were able to secure volume pricing through this partnership, and there are no plans to stop it.

"Based on this success, again, this procurement will continue as an annual procurement going forward," the committee said.

The committee added that they'd be interested in finding more opportunities to do something similar in the future.

"We hope that this effort provides an impetus for the expansion of the cooperative efforts among our three communities. In these challenging economic times, we must be more businesslike in our approach to government and look beyond our borders for creative ways to decrease the cost of government," they said.
