John R. Tierney, 63, Won 13 Emmy Awards With 'Sesame Street'

Tierney died Sunday at his Wyckoff home.

John R. Tierney, 63, who won 14 Emmy Awards for his camera work on ”Sesame Street,” and “Square One TV,” died Sunday.

Tierney was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and lived in Wyckoff for 23 years.

Tierney was post production director and senior editor at Creative Bubble, a Definition 6 Company, which he co-founded in New York City.

He won 14 National Emmy Awards, including one in 2015 for Outstanding Achievement in Multiple Camera Editing for ”Sesame Street” and “Square One TV,” another popular children’s television show.

Tierney also brought his “innovative talent” to more than 75 television shows and “hundreds” of commercials.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joellen, his son, John J. Tierney, mother, Anne J. Tierney, sister, Laura Tierney-Moran, and her husband, Robert, and nieces Jeanne and Caroline Moran.

He was predeceased by his father, John P. Tierney in 1997.

The family will receiver friends Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., in Wyckoff. A funeral service and a time of sharing will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
