More than $100K in Scholarships Distributed at IHHS

Senior awards night honored memories of former teachers and students.

More than $106,000 worth of scholarships was distributed to graduating seniors at Indian Hills High School on June 2. Fifty-six local organizations handed out 133 local scholarships to Indian Hills students. The complete list of students who were given awards is attached. 

Memorial scholarships were given in honor of former students including: 

  • James Aschwanden, a graduate of the Class of 1994, he was very involved in the school's peer leadership program TNT as well as athletics.
  • Thomas Cahill, Class of 1982, who was killed on 9/11. Thomas' class along with his family award this scholarship to a senior that embodies all that he stood for.
  • Robert Hysell Memorial Scholarship. Robert was killed in a car accident before starting his sophomore year at Villanova and is remembered as an excellent student and friend.
  • Kyle Conway Memorial Scholarship. Kyle graduated in 1995 and his parents established this scholarship to honor his memory.
  • Elizabeth "Bitsy" Madigan Scholarship - Bitsy Madigan lost her life at a very young age and the family established this scholarship to honor her spirit.  Her sister, Erin, was a graduate of Indian Hills Class of 1996.
  • Michelle Branigan "Nominate Your Friend" Scholarship. Mary Stein a former Indian Hills student established this scholarship three years ago to honor the friendship she found with Michelle while at Indian Hills and it is awarded to two seniors that embody the true meaning of friendship.

  • Carol Birdsil, the former choir director. It is awarded to a senior choir student
  • Yvonne M. Hoban, foreign language teacher. It is given to top world language student
  • Roger Rubinetti, a former teacher and coach
  • Silvana Fallone, a former Indian Hills music teacher who was active in drama productions and had a passion for the arts. Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing their studies in any area of the arts.
  • RIHEA Scholarships, which are  given in memory of former teachers and administrators from the district
  • William Librera,  the first athletic director at Indian Hills.  The scholarship is awarded to a student athlete that is also a member of Ponds Church.
