Many North Jersey lives were lost in 2018, old and young. Two young people died of cancer. Another was a victim of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

A beloved teen who once lived in New Jersey, a "loved" and "well-respected" 14-year-old praised by her travel soccer team, was one of the 17 people killed at a Florida high school shooting in February.

Ben Landel was a fighter. He fought and fought, until Thursday, when he could not fight any longer. Landel, a standout soccer and track player at Ramapo High School, died of cancer.
