The Week In Review

There is no topping the death Osama bin Laden last week. Patch caught up with some local students studying in Washington. D.C. who joined the spontaneous celebration at the White House. Closer to home, patriotism is on the rise, with a big celebration planned for Memorial Day and a commemoration planned for the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

In municipal news, on Tuesday, the Mayor and Council announced the opening of the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve is planned for June 11. 

On Wednesday, the hearings for a proposed surgical center on Tice Road were thrown out, leaving the applicant to restart the process. Tensions ran high at the previous meeting leading to a police guard at this week's Planning Board meeting.  

In school news, a Ramapo student was suspended on drug-related charges at last week's meeting, marking the third incident in the past 18 months. 

The new Wyckoff trustee on the Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education, Isabelle Lanini, spoke to Patch this week about her hopes for serving on the regional school board. 

Ali Brustofski, a Ramapo High School junior, has advanced to the next round of competition on “MSG Varsity’s Talent Show,” a new weekly series that pits the tristate area’s most talented high school acts against one another. Ali is scheduled to be back on the show on May 15 or 22.

In Housewives news, it was a busy week, with a fashion show at Stage Left, the March for Babies and a fundraiser for Rescue Ink hosted by Caroline Manzo.
