Bergen County Residents Wait For Power To Be Restored After Storm

More than 10,000 people reported outages in Bergen County. Many of them won't have power restored until Wednesday morning.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — More than 10,000 Bergen County residents are without power as severe thunderstorms pass through the area, bringing damaging winds, lightning, thunder and heavy rain.

PSE&G reports 7,294 customers without power, including more than 1,600 in Fair Lawn alone as of 7:17 p.m. on Tuesday night. An additional 2,433 Orange & Rockland customers are without power as of 7:18 p.m., including nearly 1,500 in Franklin Lakes, Oakland and Wyckoff.

Downed trees and wires caused a litany of problems in Wyckoff, including "fires and other hazardous conditions," officials said. Read more: Severe Storm Brings Power Outages, Closed Roads To Wyckoff

PSE&G said the company is working "safely & as quickly as possible to restore power. However, estimates for when power could be restored range from 4:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

But they aren't the ones facing logistical issues. NJ Transit announced that Bergen County Line rail service is suspended between Rutherford and Ridgewood due to downed trees on the tracks.

These residents make up just a portion of those without power across the state, as Patch reports that over 80,000 are without power. For most, they can expect to have it restored sometime Wednesday morning.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 90. South wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. High near 81. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
