WYCKOFF, NJ – A Wyckoff teen’s dreams came true when he took center stage of the new Broadway production of “Beetlejuice.”

Thanks to Kids Wish Network, a charity that grants wishes to kids with life-threatening illnesses, Matthew Murphy, 18, recently had the opportunity to see the musical at the Winter Garden Theatre.

While entertaining in performing arts is his life’s passion, he’s been challenged with juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM), a rare inflammatory illness causing muscle weakness and additional complications.

His mother, Lynn Murphy, said, ““Matthew’s wish was who he is, and to see it happen for him was totally over the top amazing. The whole experience from start to finish was literally a dream come true.”

The Ramapo High School student's wish was revealed to him at school when the principal shared the news during the daily broadcasted announcements and learned he’d be heading into New York City the following afternoon, according to the Kids Wish Network.

After watching the show from orchestra seats, Murphy and his family were taken on an exclusive backstage tour to meet the cast and crew, according to the non-profit organization.

That included meeting actress Leslie Kritzer, who plays Delia Deetz in the production, as well as Alex Brightman, Rob McClure and Kerry Butler. Murphy was also interviewed by Kritzer for her video blog on Broadway.com.

Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai said, “We’re so appreciative to everyone at Beetlejuice, with a very special thank you to Leslie Kritzer for her kindness and taking time to make Matthew’s wish more than he could have dreamed of.”

The national charitable organization seeks to help children with life-threatening conditions and struggling with life-altering situations by helping them create happy memories. Kids Wish Network covers the cost of trip expenses, meals, accommodations and additional spending monies to all wish families whenever traveling as applicable.
