Albuquerque Realtor Jim Sutton Helping Voices of New Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus Soar

Realtor Jim Sutton, qualifying broker at Century 21 Unica Real Estate, recently organized a thank you event for sponsors and VIPs of the New Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus (NMGMC) prior to its Pride Concert. The show, titled “The Voices of the Uprising,” was attended by 582 people and raised $7,770.

“Many local businesses are supporting the efforts of the Chorus in our mission to reduce homophobia and intolerance and create a positive image of the GLBT community through high-quality, public musical performances,” said Sutton, lead fundraiser for the NMGMC and its chairman of the board.

At this year’s Pride Concert, the Chorus sang songs expressing its commitment and determination to use their voices to bring attention to these issues and to the plight of people who are experiencing similar oppression. Numbers included “My Shot” from the musical Hamilton, which is based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, and “21 Guns” from American Idiot. Both songs received a standing ovation.

The NMGMC strives to be an empowering voice for the GLBT community and to enrich the greater New Mexican community through its choral excellence. The Chorus believes that its strength grows as it adds voice to voice, and that understanding between people of diverse cultures and orientations blossoms each time it presents a musical offering.
