Obituary: Kathy Blatchley

Kathy Blatchley's, formerly (Didominic-Hasan) journey on earth, ended on October 12, 2017, at the age of 55, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Kathy was born and raised in Milford, Ct, the daughter of Anne (Kowt) & Henry Blatchley, both deceased, but has made Albuquerque, New Mexico her home for the past 15 years. Graduating from the University of New Haven, with a degree in hotel and restaurant management (1982), Kathy trained franchisees for Subway World Headquarters, as a young adult, and later on, opened her own Subway store. Changing careers, she graduated from nursing school at Quinnipiac College (1993), and was a dedicated nurse, working with a wide variety of patients, including veterans from West Haven's VA Hospital, Alzheimer's , ICU, assisted living, youth with psychiatric challenges, and most recently, a care manager for PMG Family Medicine San Mateo clinic. In addition to Kathy's compassion throughout the 24 years of her nursing career, she had a special gift of integrating holistic and traditional medicine. Her knowledge of diseases & conditions, nutrition, homeopathic medicine, mainstream medicine, and safety, far surpassed her RN degree. Besides being a caregiver to all, she was a dedicated mother to Julian Thornton & Walid Hasan, of New Mexico, Paul Didominic , & Larissa Watt, and grandmother to Nadia & Nathaniel Watt of Connecticut. Sister to loving siblings; Joanne Blatchley of Virginia, Laura Blatchley (Herron) of Rhode Island, Deborah Blatchley of Georgia, Charles (Chuck) Blatchley, of Ct, and predeceased by Michael Blatchley. Aunt to Britton Rees, Kayla Miller, and Maya Herron. Kathy will also be greatly missed by her devoted partner, Walt Lucero, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who was at her side until the end, and his children, Chinara, and her husband Ben Brooks, Nicole Lucero, Fernando Soto & family. Kathy also has numerous cousins and extended family and friends who will always cherish her memory. A lover of all animals, her entire life, rescuing every furry species from cats to pigeons, and a pet parent to dogs; Rocky & Shyla, cats; Simon, Spunky, Mona Lisa, and Pepper the naughty parrot. A special thanks to Bob & Joyce Austin, Danielle, Ryan, and family, whose amazing love and support to Kathy, and her family, is appreciated. You were her lifelong friends who became our family. Thank you, also to the inpatient and homecare team from Presbyterian healthcare, XRANM-Xray Associates, of Santa Fe, as well as Dr. Edmonds, of Presbyterian, Albuquerque, and Dr. Russ Canfield, of Santa Fe, who were not only great friends, but did their best to make her comfortable, and lift her spirits. Thank you again, to all of the family and friends who have been a support to Kathy, and to all of us during this difficult time. She will never be forgotten, and will be greatly missed. A service will be held at 907 Noval Place, NW, Albuquerque, NM, on Sunday, October 22nd at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome. A service, and celebration of life, for family and friends in Connecticut, will be held at a later date.
