4 Teens Killed in Upstate Jeep Crash

The only person in the Jeep to survive the crash was also the only one wearing a seatbelt, police say. A 16-year-old was behind the wheel.

BURNS, NY – Four teens were killed when a Jeep crashed into a tree upstate Saturday morning, State Police said.

According to police, 16-year-old Rebecca Earner was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on County Route 13C when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the T-intersection of County Route 13 at about 4:32 a.m. in Burns in Allegany County.

The Jeep went through the intersection, struck a tree and then came to rest in an earth embankment.

Earner and three passengers, 16-year-old Ambra Eddleton, 14-year-old Justin Carpenter and 14-year-old Kyrstin Wolfanger, all of Danville, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The only person wearing a seatbelt in the Jeep, 16-year-old Kelsi Bird, also of Danville, was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for multiple non-life threatening injuries, police said.
