All dogs deserve a home with a loving family. While many do find happiness, some are repeatedly overlooked because they have traits that seem to make them less adoptable, and sometimes, for no apparent reason, the nicest dog is stuck in the shelter for far too long.
Meet Jillian (aka Jilly), this beautiful girl has sadly lost the only family she has ever known. Jilly’s family loved her very much, but their hearts and hers were shattered in July of 2019 when they had to relocate to a part of Canada where her breed is unwelcome; she was surrendered to the Babylon Animal Shelter. Now she sits day after day behind shelter walls wondering why she spends most of her days and nights behind bars. Just imagine how sad it must be for her watching as other dogs come and go.
Jilly once lived in a loving home, as a treasured family pet, her devastation upon her surrender is nothing short of heartbreaking. She doesn’t understand and so she waits. Every day, every hour, every minute, she waits for her mom and dad to come back for her. She has no idea they aren’t coming back, and it’s beyond heartbreaking.

Poor Jilly is yet another beauty that is simply overlooked, she just doesn’t get much attention at the shelter from potential adopters, they just pass her by. We have a hard time figuring out why but have given up guessing which animals would be popular and adopted quickly. Truthfully based on what we have seen and heard about this wonderful girl, it simply seems like she just blends in with all the other dogs, and it’s time we changed that.
Adding to the loss of the only home she has ever known, Jilly sits behind shelter walls and suffering from skin issues. Could it be that people hear about Jilly’s skin allergies and walk away? We have been told by the shelter that this is in fact what the issue has been and we are dumbfounded! No one asks to meet her, no one wants to take her home because they don’t want to deal with her allergies? Any other dog in the shelter like Jilly would have attracted interest and would be in a loving home in a heartbeat.

Jilly’s skin is currently being treated, and she is looking fabulous! Sadly, even with this wonderful improvement, she still gets passed by and no one wants to take her home; and it makes no sense; it is just beyond heartbreaking. Jilly just needs a family that is able to care for this minor medical need. Jilly takes anti-inflammatory medication, is eating a special hypoallergenic diet, and receives medicated baths regularly to keep her comfortable and happy. In fact, she loves the bath!
Other than her skin allergies, Jilly presents zero behavior issues so the fact that she still goes unnoticed in and of itself is an entirely different issue. Jilly is very calm, sweet, great in the bath, great at the vet, very gentle with treats, food and toys. She even lets the staff come in and hang out with her in her kennel and she doesn’t care. Jilly is a really good girl! She is the complete package for an amazing family dog! All this sweet girl wants is a loving home and family where she can relax, heal and enjoy all that life has to offer.
Jilly is a 6 year young, 45 pound sweetheart who LOVES people and is extremely well behaved. She knows all her basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, and would love to be a couch potato. She loves going on walks and running in the big grass yard at the shelter. She’s a pretty low-key, sweet, silly girl that just likes to hang out with her people. She is not fond of other dogs, so she will need to be your one and only princess. No dogs or cats, and the shelter is recommending homes with children 8 years and up.
In every shelter, there are always dogs that get overlooked for one reason or another and you would assume that these would be the reactive dogs, the very timid or the much older senior residents, but a dog with allergies? Really?! Take a look at this face and tell us how you could pass her by? The hearts of our companion animals, like our own are fragile, so we must be gentle with them. You can never be too nice or too generous with your love. As it is often said, you can’t change a dog’s past but you can rewrite their future. Let’s get beautiful Jilly’s name and face out into the dog loving community so she will be noticed by that one special person/family out there who will love and cherish her forever.
Jilly has been at the shelter waiting for her forever home too long. Won’t you please open your heart to this adorable girl and give her the chance she truly deserves? There must be a family out there who is the perfect match for this adorable girl; she is truly special and so deserving of a home. Please make an appointment, go meet her, we guarantee you’ll fall in love!
