Buffalo Seniors Defying the Odds
12 Inspirational "60-Somethings" to be Featured on 2021 Calendar

BUFFALO, NY (January 18, 2021) -- The pages of a calendar reveal a new year and new opportunities; for many Baby Boomers, “prioritize my health” is likely on their 2021 resolution list. Exemplifying just that is a dynamic group of 12 Buffalo “60 somethings” –seniors who prove that a positive attitude is the right fuel to help them overcome chronic health conditions and live a longer, healthier life. From surviving a grueling battle with COVID-19, to volunteering with children with disabilities despite the onset of Parkinson’s disease, to losing over 150 pounds –in an effort to “pay it forward,” the Buffalo 60 Strong Ambassadors are sharing their stories and spirit with their peers.
These 12 inspirational Buffalonians, who range in age from 60 to 69, were selected to be “pin-ups” on an exclusive 2021 calendar; they are highlighted alongside notable Buffalo landmarks featuring area activities and events that seniors can enjoy. The calendar will also feature health tips and provide information about Medicare information sessions and open enrollment. They were chosen by a celebrity panel of judges, including Buffalo media personalities, city government officials, and leaders in the community who were impressed by each of their unique stories that shared a common thread –grit, resilience and a fervent drive to give back.

One 60 Strong Ambassador, James “Ozzie” Osiadlo, has volunteered for 21 years at SABAH, an organization that helps individuals with disabilities learn to plan sports. When Ozzie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, it became especially important for him to continue volunteering. He says he finds strength through his daughter, Alex, who has high functioning down syndrome and is part of the SABAH program. Reflecting on his work with SABAH, Ozzie says, “I love volunteering with kids with disabilities. It’s the best thing in life.”
Despite battling a life-changing disease like Parkinson’s, Ozzie remains positive. His exercise routine is crucial to slowing the onset of his symptoms, and he gets up at 4 a.m. every morning to take 8-10-mile walks and go to the gym. He says it’s most important to “always have a sense of humor.”
The Buffalo 60 Strong calendars are available for purchase online at www.Buffalo60Strong.com. The cost is $15 for each calendar and all proceeds will benefit Hospice and Palliative Care Buffalo.
