Upstate Man High on Heroin May Have Dropped 1-Year-Old: Police

The child is in guarded condition with a possible significant brain injury.​ Police say the child's injuries are not just from a fall.

An upstate man was arrested Monday after a 1-year-old child in his care suffered significant head injuries, State Police said.

Shane E. Kranock, 25, was under the influence of heroin when the child was injured, police said.

An investigation determined that Kranock might have dropped the child after changing a diaper.

" Though some of the injuries could have been incurred by a fall, the child’s injuries are not exclusively from just a fall," State Police said in press release Tuesday.

The child is in guarded condition with a possible significant brain injury at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester.

Kranock is charged with first degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to Allegany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
