Albany Woman Accused Of Stealing Unemployment Benefits: Police

Police said she filed for unemployment while she was working.

ALBANY, NY — An Albany woman faces charges for allegedly stealing unemployment benefits. On Sept. 13, State Police–Troop G Latham BCI arrested Serena Lanoue, 34, of Albany, for Grand Larceny-Third Degree, Falsifying Business Records-First Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing-First Degree, all felonies.

The arrest comes after a joint investigation in conjunction with the New York State Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance Benefits Department determined that Lanoue applied for unemployment benefits while she was employed.

She collected approximately $3,604 when she was not eligible for benefits.

Lanoue was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable in the City of Albany Court on Sept. 27.
