Drug Charges For Illinois Woman After NY Thruway Stop In Albany

She was carrying enough concentrated cannabis to make it a felony.

ALBANY, NY — An Illinois woman faces felony drug charges after being pulled over by troopers on the New York Thruway.

At about 8:50 p.m. Friday, New York State Police said a trooper stopped a vehicle on I-87 in Albany for an unspecified moving violation. (SIGN UP: get Patch’s daily newsletter, news alerts and updates.)

During the interview of the driver, probable cause to search the vehicle was established, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Tina M. Schools, 44, of Morris, Illinois, was found to be in possession of about 20 grams of Concentrated Cannabis, and about 1/10th of an ounce of marijuana. Schools was taken into custody, transported and processed at the state police's Albany barracks, where she was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree; a Class D Felony
  • Unlawful Possession of Marihuana; a Violation
  • Vehicle and Traffic Violation.


Schools was arraigned in the City of Albany Court. She posted $1,500 cash bail and was released. Her next court date is Aug. 17.
