New York State Trooper Dies After Being Rear-Ended

The trooper was on his way to work at State Police barracks in Fonda, New York, when the crash occurred.

FONDA, NY — A New York State Police trooper has died after being rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic as he was driving to work at the state police barracks in Fonda, officials said.

In a statement, NYSP Superintendent George P. Beach II said the trooper was stopped in traffic wating to turn into the station in his personal vehicle around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to Albany Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The trooper was identified as Jeremy J. VanNostrand. In the statement, the NYSP said VanNostrand served with the agency for six years and was a corrections officer for eight years prior to that.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, his parents and his sister and brother.
