10 New 'Affordable' Apartments Up For Grabs In Astoria

ASTORIA, QUEENS — Ten new apartments in Astoria have hit the "affordable" housing lottery, according to the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
Households will need to bring in more than $68,000 a year to qualify for any of the new apartments, which include seven units at 36-08 28th Ave. and three units in a new building at 23-61 31st St., records show.
At 36-08 28th Ave., which features a shared laundry room and covered parking, six one-bedroom apartments and a single two-bedroom apartment are up for grabs.

Tenants will have to pay monthly rents of $2,433 to live in any of the one-bedroom units.
Meanwhile, the two-bedroom apartment rents for $2,938 and is only open to households of two or more people earning at least $99,000 all together, records show.

Further north, at 23-61 31st St., the lucky lottery winners will get to pay $2,245 a month for a one-bedroom apartment in an elevator building with a shared laundry room and gym.
But hopeful tenants will have to make $80,000 a year to even apply.
The developers of both properties are slated to receive tax breaks for building the "affordable" units, according to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
