Lottery Opens For 37 'Affordable' Apartments In Long Island City
Monthly rents for the so-called "affordable" units start at just under $2,000 for a studio.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Several dozen apartments in a new luxury development in Long Island City have hit the affordable housing lottery, but they won't come cheap.
Applications are now open for 37 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments at 43-12 Hunter St., according to the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
Rents start at just under $2,000 a month for a studio and go up to about $3,000 for a two-bedroom apartment.

The units are only available to households raking in at least $68,229 a year and as much as $159,640, depending on how many people will live there, records show.
The building, called The Cove, is an 18-story luxury residential building developed by Rockrose that touts the "coveted lifestyle of exclusivity and amenity rich living" it will offer residents, according to its website.

Amenities include high-end kitchen appliances and countertops, in-unit laundry, a roof deck with barbecue grills, a fitness center, a "sun lounge" and library lounge, a game room, bike storage and a virtual doorman.
