New 'Affordable' Apartments In LIC Call For $70K Salary
Households have to make at least $70,000 a year to be eligible for any of the 43 "affordable" apartments, located in a new luxury complex.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Dozens of "affordable" apartments in a new luxury rental development in Long Island City have hit the housing lottery, but families will need to earn at least $70,000 a year to even apply.
The 43 available "affordable" units at The Astor LIC, at 36-20 Steinway St., include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.
Monthly rents start at $2,050 for a studio and rise to $2,400 for a one-bedroom and $3,100 for a two-bedroom, records show.

Applicants must have a household income of $70,286 to apply for a studio — and even higher for one of the larger units.
The units are priced at 130 percent of the area's median income, according to the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. The developer is slated to receive tax breaks for offering affordable housing options.

Apartments feature in-unit laundry, high-end kitchen appliances and finishes, a dishwasher, air conditioning and high-speed internet.
Building amenities include a rooftop lounge, gym, bike storage, covered parking, package lockers, on-site resident manager, doorman and elevator.
