Western Queens Is A Millennial Hotspot, Report Says

Long Island City and Astoria are two of the city's top neighborhood for young New Yorkers in their 20s and 30s, a real estate report finds.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Western Queens is a hotspot for millennials.

Long Island City is one of the top neighborhood for young New Yorkers in their 20s and 30s, according to a new PropertyClub report.

Two of every three residents in the 11109 zip code, which covers the area by Gantry Plaza State Park, are millennials, according to the report.

The real estate website crunched data from the U.S. Census Bureau to put together a list of the 10 New York zip codes with the largest share of millennials.

The Financial District in downtown Manhattan topped the list with a 67-percent share of millennials, followed by the Garment District.

Long Island City's 11109 zip code came in third, with a 64-percent share of millennials.

The report also found that a whopping 93 percent of residents in that zip code are renters — a trademark characteristic of the millennial generation.

Astoria ranked ninth on the list, with just about half of residents in the 11103 zip code belonging to the millennial generation.

Looking purely at the number of millennials in each New York neighborhood, Williamsburg takes the top spot, with nearly 45,000 millennials, followed by Corona in Queens.
