Developer Looking To Build Apartment Complex On Touro Campus

The application to request a change of zone for the proposed complex will be discussed during a town board meeting this week.

BAY SHORE, NY - A Long Island-based developer is looking to build a new apartment complex at a college campus site in Bay Shore. Tritec Real Estate recently made a deal to buy a portion of Touro College's campus for the proposed 495 apartment building.

The site is located on Union Boulevard and Fourth Avenue, near the Bay Shore train station.

"Touro College has completed a deal with Tritec to purchase the Touro Bay Shore Campus which we will integrate into our Central Islip campus with the addition of one new building," Jeffrey Rosengarten, Senior Vice President of Operations at Touro, said in a statement. "Both Touro and TRITEC are awaiting town approval on details of construction at both affected sites."

The proposed project will be up for discussion at a public hearing during an Islip Town Board meeting this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Islip Town Hall West on 401 W Main Street in Islip.

Tritec filed an application to request a change of zone from Business District to Downtown Development District to construct the mixed-use building.

The building will be constructed on the 5,000 square-foot commercial space. Construction, expected to be begin next year, will cost an estimated $195 million.
