Pet-Friendly Apartments Are A Must For Bayside Renters: Study
Renters prioritize their pets above all other amenities when apartment hunting in the Queens neighborhood, according to StreetEasy.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS -- Finding an apartment in New York City is all about compromise, but every renter has a must-have they're not willing to budge on. In Bayside, pets take the priority.
Apartment hunters in the northeast Queens neighborhood prioritize pet-friendliness over all other building amenities, according to a StreetEasy study released Thursday. The real-estate website analyzed a year's worth of New York City apartment searches to determine the most "uniquely popular" amenity in each neighborhood.
Across the city, renters' most desired traits ranged from parking, to outdoor space to places willing to accept guarantors and more. But in Bayside and surrounding neighborhoods, such luxuries paled in comparison to a building that promised to welcome their furry friends with open arms.

The neighborhood falls in line with a previous StreetEasy study that ranked the ability to have pets as the most popular amenity for all New York City renters. It showed up in more than a third of renters' amenity-specific searches.
Much of northeast Queens seems to agree. Pets were found to be the most important criteria in neighborhoods such as Douglaston College Point and Little Neck, according to StreetEasy. The only exception appears to be Flushing, where outdoor space instead takes precedence.

In western and central Queens neighborhoods such as Astoria, Long Island City, Forest Hills and Elmhurst, space for parking proved to be the hot commodity.
Outside Queens, a good number of the study's results backed neighborhood cliché: Apartment hunters in ritzy areas near Central Park wanted pied-à -terres, while those searching in gentrifying neighborhoods such as Bushwick or Crown Heights wanted to find a place that would accept guarantors.
