'Affordable' Apartments Near Bed-Stuy Require $70K Salary

The deadline to apply is approaching for six buildings on the affordable housing lottery. Salary requirements range from $30,000 to $76,000.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — The deadline to apply is approaching for several buildings on the affordable housing lottery in the Bed-Stuy area.

At least six buildings in the Bed-Stuy area — including in Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, Bushwick and Williamsburg — are open for applications on the NYC Housing Connect lottery, a few of which will expire within the next week.

First to expire will be three one-bedroom units in a building at 141 Woodbine St. Applicants here should make at least $66,858 a year and apply before the end of the day Thursday.

A building at 1520 Fulton St. is also set to expire on Thursday. In this building, there are seven one-bedroom units and eight two-bedroom units up for grabs for those making 130 percent of the area median income.

For the one-bedroom spots this means a minimum salary of $67,715 and for the two-bedroom spots a $77,143 minimum salary.

Another Fulton Street building, in Clinton Hill, has about a week left on the lottery list. More details about that building can be found here.

A building on Stockholm Street also has units up for grabs. Those one-bedroom spots will go to those making at least $70,286 and are set to expire on Oct. 18.

Applicants have a little more time to apply to the last two Bed-Stuy-area developments on the list, one of which is on Johnson Avenue and another on Bleecker Street.

The Johnson Avenue building includes several different salary brackets, including some as low as $30,000 per year. Find out more here.

The Bleecker Street building requires a minimum $76,389 salary. There is one studio, three one-bedroom and four two-bedroom spots open in that building. The application deadline is on Nov. 3.
