OCEAN HILL, BROOKLYN — An old, possibly abandoned church in Ocean Hill, a subset of Bed-Stuy on the neighborhood's eastern edge, caved in on itself Wednesday afternoon around 1:20 p.m., according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).

At 2 p.m., fire officials were still on scene assessing a "partial collapse of the roof of the building," an FDNY spokesman told Patch. No injuries were reported at that time.

The building that collapsed is located at 1660 Eastern Parkway, near the intersection with Prospect Place, and is owned by the Original Church of God in Christ, according to the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB).

The DOB recorded Wednesday's incident at the property as a "partial collapse of roof and wall."

City records show that someone from the residential building behind the church, at 1939 Park Place, complained in 2008 that "heavy water" was "permeating from the church" and flooding the lot behind it.

Patch was not immediately able to determine if the church has been operational in recent years.
