'Affordable' Brooklyn Housing: Are Any In Your Price Range?
Here's your monthly guide to the city's affordable Brooklyn listings. This month, eight out of 12 buildings demanded six-figure incomes.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — All it takes to find an affordable apartment in some Brooklyn neighborhoods is an annual income of $146,510, records show.
Hundreds of "affordable" options became available in Brooklyn this month, but a Patch analysis found two-thirds of the buildings sought applicants earning more than $100,000 a year.
As part of a monthly series that examines what 'affordable' means in Brooklyn, Patch examined the 12 Brooklyn listings on NYC Housing Connect — the mayor's affordable housing program, recently criticized by a City Comptroller report for exorbitant prices — available to qualifying New Yorkers on Nov. 30.

There were 351 Brooklyn apartments up for grabs on Friday, a big drop from October's 789 units, with only 208 available to New Yorkers earning less than the 130 percent the area median income. A large number of those below-AMI apartments were clustered in East New York, a trend Patch also noted last month.
No apartments were listed for less than 130 percent AMI in Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and Flatbush. And in affluent neighborhoods such as Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope and Fort Greene, there were no homes listed.
