Find Your Roommate Soulmate At This Bed-Stuy Speed Dating Event

Valentine's Day approaches and Brooklyn is on the hunt for that special person ... who will pay his share of the rent on time.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — Here’s your chance to find your soul(room)mate.

Whose Your Landlord, the Bed-Stuy business that serves as a Yelp for landlords, will be playing matchmaker this week when it hosts a speed dating night for future roommate soulmates.

“When you find the right roommates, you find lifelong friendships,” said WYL director of communications Kelley Green. “Come find your new bestie, your new bae or your new boo.

“And bring your A-Game,” she added.

Dozens of Brooklyn millenials are expected to gather at a Bed-Stuy apartment — “very BK, think brick wall interiors and an intimate aspect,” said Greene — with snacks from Bed-Stuy’s Chef Day, wine, cocktails and a Valentine’s Day-inspired mission.

The event will work the same way speed dating does with participants prompted to introduce themselves to someone new within an allotted time.

The difference is that instead of seeking “Mr. Right,” Brooklyn millenials will be looking for “Mr. Right next to my bedroom lives a guy who shares a bathroom with me and helps pay the utility bill.”

Also, Green doesn’t have the traditional speed dating accessory, a buzzer … yet.

“What we’ll have is me and my loud voice,” said Green with a laugh. “Maybe I can get a buzzer app.”

There will also be guest two guest speakers to talk about the quirks of living in Brooklyn apartments and how to be a good roommate, said Green.

The secret, much like a marriage, is communication, she said.

The “Speed Roommating” event will be the first of many events, planned by WYL, to empower, inform and gather Brooklyn tenants, said Green.

“Expect to have an experience,” said Green. “Especially in Brooklyn, you never know who you’re going to meet.”

Speed Roommating is slated to start on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $7 and the location will be revealed with an RSVP.
