Roaches Take Over Brooklyn Grandmother's NYCHA Home: Report

NYCHA failed to fix a collapsed bathroom ceiling and exterminate roaches in a woman's apartment for months, according to a PIX11 report.

BED-STUY, NY — Thousands of roaches infested a Brooklyn grandmother's NYCHA apartment as it was allowed to fall into disrepair, a report says.

Kim Summers reached out to PIX11 reporter Monica Morales about conditions in her Lafayette Gardens apartment in Bed-Stuy, according to a Wednesday story.

The bathroom ceiling in the NYCHA home collapsed in September but officials had yet to fix it, Summers told Morales.

Not only that but roaches —thousands of them, according to PIX11 — could be seen crawling on the apartment's walls and in its closets and kitchen cabinets.

Summers, a breast cancer survivor and former city employee, told Morales she was embarrassed to have her three grandchildren visit her apartment. She also didn't think it was healthy for them.
