Own An Entire Town For Less Than Any Long Island House

You can own an old mining town in Utah for less than $250,000. That won't get you nearly as much around here.

Everyone knows that homes on Long Island are expensive. If you want a decent home, be prepared to shell out a few hundred thousands dollars, depending on your neighborhood.

But a dollar can go a lot further in different parts of the country. Like in Helper, Utah, where you can buy 154 acres of land, as well as the ghost town that sits on it, for only $225,000.

The site is the home of the former Maple Creek Mine and the mining town that sprung up around it. Most of the buildings are gone, but there are still some dotting the property that can be discovered, along with tons of little treasures and tools that were left behind by previous residents.

Old trails and roads still wind through the property, making it a great place to do some hiking (or ghost hunting).

According to Realtor.com, the Maple Creek Coal Co. opened the mine in 1927 and was in operation for a few years until a fire in 1931. Two other companies later operated the mine until the coal vein was tapped
