6 More Brentwood Students Test Positive For Coronavirus

According to the State COVID-19 School Report Card, the school district has a total of 25 cases as of Monday

BRENTWOOD, NY — Six more Brentwood students tested positive for the coronavirus over the weekend, the school district announced on Monday. According to the letter from Superintendent Richard Loeschner, the Suffolk County Department of Health notified school officials of the positive cases and started the contact tracing process soon after.

First, two students at Brentwood High School, which has been on full remote learning since last Tuesday, tested positive. The students were not in school when they were symptomatic so no additional quarantining was needed. In addition, two students at North Middle School, one student at North Elementary and one student at East Middle School also tested positive.

Health officials reviewed the district’s safety protocols and looked at when the students tested
positive as well as when and if they were symptomatic. The students who tested positive, along with the students and staff members who came in contact with the students, have all been placed in quarantine.

In the letter, Loeschner states that the district is meeting and, in many cases, exceeding CDC and the local health department safety protocols. He says that students and staff are remaining six-feet away in classes and that his is "impressed and grateful" at how students are wearing their masks during the school day.

"Since Brentwood is a community with over 65,000 inhabitants it is inevitable that some of our
school community contract the virus," he wrote. "Nevertheless, we must continue to work together in order to lessen its impact on our children and schools."
