6-Year-Old Ejected From Motorcycle That Went Through Stop Sign
The driver of the motorcycle was arrested on a child endangerment charge after the crash Monday afternoon, police say.
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A 6-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was thrown from the back of the motorcycle he was riding on Monday afternoon on Long Island, police said. The driver of the motorcycle was arrested.
According to Suffolk police, 39-year-old Lamar Samuel was riding a late model ZHNG motorcycle eastbound on East Beech Street in Central Islip when he drove through a stop sign without stopping and struck a 1999 Honda at about 12:35 p.m.
Both Samuel and his 6-year-old passenger, Emmanuel Garcia-Torres, were ejected from the motorcycle.

Garcia-Torres, a family friend of Samuel, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious physical injuries, police said.
Samuel, of Central Islip, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Honda, a 28-year-old Central Islip man, was not injured.

Samuel was charged with endangering the welfare of a child in addition to vehicle and traffic violations, police said. He was released on a field appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
There is no age legal restriction for passengers on motorcycles in New York State.
