Brentwood St. Patrick's Day Parade Still On

Organizers are monitoring the coronavirus situation on Long Island and have not yet decided to cancel the parade set for next weekend.

BRENTWOOD, NY — The Brentwood St. Patrick's Day parade is still scheduled to take place next week. The organizers of the 52nd annual event announced in a post on Facebook that as of Wednesday, the parade is still on and that no decision will be made until next week.

The parade is set to take place on Saturday, March 21 starting at 1 p.m. The festivities will kick off on Clark Street and Washington Avenue.

"Last year was one of the most successful parade’s Brentwood has had in quite a few years. With your attendance, we hope to make this year’s parade the most successful yet," the description of the event reads. "Our committee has worked hard through the year to get the whole community involved in celebrating this great event."

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, several parades across Long Island set for the next few weeks have been canceled. There have no reported cases in Brentwood as of Thursday.

Nassau County continues to have the highest number of cases, now reaching 40. One of those is in serious condition, county officials said at a press conference Thursday, and 10 people are currently hospitalized. One of the patients in Nassau County is an 81-year-old woman who was living at Bristal Assisted Living at North Hills. Officials said she is hospitalized, but that she is not the patient in critical condition.

Suffolk county saw its cases jump yesterday, going from one to six overnight, bringing the total on Long Island to 46. There are 274 people in mandatory or precautionary quarantine in Nassau, and eight in mandatory quarantine in Suffolk.
