Driver In Crash That Killed 4-Year-Old Smoked Marijuana: Reports
The teen pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and was released under orders to wear a monitoring bracelet, according to reports.
BRENTWOOD, NY — The 19-year-old man who fatally struck a 4-year-old girl with his car while driving in Brentwood on Tuesday night was reportedly high on marijuana, according to multiple reports.
Suffolk Police say Brentwood resident Christian Yanes was driving a 2018 Honda Civic northbound on Fulton Street at 6:50 p.m. when he struck Roussy A. Cabrera Fuentes in the roadway. Cabrera Fuentes was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and pronounced dead, police said.
Yanes was charged with driving while impaired by drugs. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Wednesday.

ABC7 reports that court documents show that Yanes was smoking marijuana.
"He's going to be arrested, in jail, nothing is going to bring my daughter back," the little girl's father, Luis Cabrera, told ABC7. "Yesterday in the afternoon I go to do something, and my wife called me, the car hit my daughter."

Following his arraignment with Judge Rosann Orlando, Yanes was released under orders to "wear a monitoring bracelet, seek drug treatment if necessary and obey a 6 p.m. curfew," Newsday reports.
Yanes was allegedly arrested after both giving an oral admission and a written statement to police, according to Newsday. He pleaded not guilty and is due back in court on July 28.
A witness to the incident told ABC7 that Roussy was playing in her yard when the crash occurred.
"When the car came and hit the girl, I thought it was a doll that came out of the car," Justin Morales told ABC7. "When I saw her brother coming and crying, then I knew."
