Officials Tear Down Abandoned Central Islip Home

The "zombie home" was demolished after fire marshals previously reported that the property posed a danger to the neighborhood.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Town of Islip officials tore down an abandoned Central Islip home recently. Officials demolished the zombie home as part of a step to removing derelict properties within the town.

The Islip Town Board authorized the razing of the abandoned East Cedar Street property during a March 2019 Town Board meeting. The Islip fire marshals previously reported a sagging roof and overgrown vegetation which posed a danger to the neighborhood, and recommended the structure be torn down.

"Not only do these nuisance properties bring home values down, they are hazardous, and oftentimes attract illegal activity," Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. "The entire Islip Town Board is committed to ensuring that all residents in the Town of Islip enjoy a quality of life."
