5th Graders Tour Historic Philadelphia In Bronxville Union Free School District

After studying the importance of the United States Constitution, fifth graders took a virtual field trip to the birthplace of American freedom and toured Philadelphia’s many historic sites on May 19.

During an interactive presentation, they toured the National Liberty Museum, which highlights everyday heroes and teaches students how to speak up and make a difference in their community. They also participated in a guided tour of the city, which visually walked them through the streets of Philadelphia and the places, now museums, where the Founding Fathers worked to create the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, such as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Center.

“The students got a sense of the city and the city’s importance during the birth of our country,” teacher Sarah Zonenshine said.

In connection to their lessons on the Constitution and everyday heroes, the fifth graders will engage in a project-based learning experience over the next several weeks. As part of the “Be the Change” capstone project, they’ve identified a problem in their community and will now take social action toward solving it.
