Bittersweet Afternoon for Concordia Softball

This class would finish their four-year career with a record of 67-79.

Thanks to Sports Information/Community Engagement Director Brian Snow for the following:

Last Saturday would be a bittersweet afternoon for the Concordia College softball team. Not only did the program look to qualify for another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoff appearance but it would be the final home games of the season for the team and the last regular season games for the senior class.

Laura Brezovsky (Yonkers, N.Y.), Theresa Magnani (Bethpage, N.Y.), Kristina Patrocinio (Edison, N.J.), and Lindsey Russo (Branford, Conn.) were the four seniors that were recognized on the afternoon for their hard work and dedication to the program throughout their collegiate careers.

This class would finish their four-year career with a record of 67-79 (.459) and were one of two classes to accumulate double-digit wins in each season. The class captured a Co-CACC Regular Season Championship in 2011 while recording a program record 11 wins during their home games that season.

Patrocinio would conclude her career as the program’s leader in home runs, RBI’s, total bases, at-bats, games started, and games played while ranking in the top-10 in slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples, and runs scored. She was a two-time All-CACC Second Team selection and an All-CACC First Team selection in 2011.

Mangnani spent the past two seasons as the program’s #1 pitcher. She faced 1,065 batters in her career and pitched 41 complete games with a 21-29 record. Theresa recorded 172 strikeouts and pitched a total of 321.0 innings while batting .280 with 79 hits, 48 RBI’s, and four home runs.

Brezovsky had a career batting average of .253 in 86 games played with 59 hits, 17 runs, 25 RBI’s and 11 doubles and as a catcher threw out 17 batters in her career.

Russo was a hardworking teammate during the four seasons with Concordia and she first began her career as a catcher but then learned a new skill and position, the outfield. Lindsey always was there to support her teammates and was the one to boost moral when the team needed it the most.

All four student-athletes will be missed as this past Saturday was the final games for both the seniors and the entire team in 2013. A sweep by Wilmington (Del.) spoiled the Clippers’ chances at a playoff appearance as Concordia finished tied for the final playoff spot but would miss out based on the conference’s tiebreaker procedure. All four will be missed by the team and the community that they were a part of during their career.

A full season wrap-up on the 2013 softball season will be released this summer. Be sure to check back to ConcordiaClippers.com for the announcement on the season wrap-ups in early June.
