Bronx River Cleanup Effort
Volunteers from the Bronxville-Tuckahoe-Eastchester area worked hard to clean up a large portion of the reservation's 12.5 mile area.
People from the Eastchester-Tuckahoe-Bronxville area pitched in to help clean up the Bronx River. The cleanup effort is said to be the largest Westchester Parks volunteer activity.
Volunteers, who took part in the Westchester County event, called "Pitched in for Parks," cleaned up a large potion of the Bronx River Parkway between Eastchester and Scarsdale. They removed trash, tree limbs, loose branches and tree-killing vines.
The cleanup effort gave people from environmental groups, political organizations and people who live in the area a chance to make a difference.
“When people look at the storm damage in the parkland and see vines killing off otherwise-healthy trees, they might say ‘someone should do something about that.’ But the truth is, we are all that someone," said Pitched in for Parks Event Co-Chair Laurie Puhn Feinstein. "Cleaning up our own community means we are being responsible citizens. I could not have been prouder of our members at the JLCW and many others in our community for participating in the clean-up with energy and spirit.”
The entire reservation area spans 12.5 miles. It stretches from the Kensico Dam all the way down to the border of the Bronx. The green space contrasts with the densely populated areas of Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville.
