Bronxville's Mary Cain Profiled in The New York Times

She runs about 70 miles per week.

Bronxville native - and emerging running star - Mary Cain is the subject of a lengthy profile this week in The New York Times.

The story chronicles the 18-year-old’s background, training with world-renowned runner and coach Alberto Salazar and growing pains of being young athlete who is considered to be a prodigy.

She runs about 70 miles per week, roughly 85 percent of what the older runners under Salazar’s tutelage train at, all part of a plan to bring Cain along slowly so she peaks in her mid-20s.

“I’m very confident she can run 3:55 [in the 1,500 meters],” Salazar told the Times. Currently, her best is 4:04.62. “Maybe somewhere in the 3:52 range.”
