Bronxville's Petticoat Lane is Closing

If you walk down Pondfield Road you can't miss Petticoat Lane's huge sign that reads "Store Closing." Owner Jason Palmer tells us that the store's lease is up in October. He plans to close the shop at that time unless the landlord does not have a new renter in by October. If that is the case, he says he may stay open until Christmas.

"There are customers who by far and away support me. And they are loyal to my store and they are loyal to the business. But I just don't get enough support in general from the people in the town," says Palmer. "It's hard to compete, I have malls close by, I have Lord & Taylor 10 to 15 minutes away. It's a difficult thing."

Palmer is also part of the operation for stores in Scarsdale, Chappaqua, Greenwich and two businesses in the city. He says it isn't that the Bronxville store is losing money, it's just not making enough cash to make the operation worthwhile.

Palmer says that perhaps he could make the store work if he was there everyday, but he is currently always at the Greenwich location, which is where he has been for 20 years. Palmer is also a family man who has to make time for his two special needs children.

"I just don't have the time to commit to that (Bronxville) store and my other stores… plus my website and my kids," said Palmer.
Palmer says now that the store is closing, business has been brisk. Of course, everything in those store is being discounted 40%.
