Heat Advisory, Air Alert: Bronxville's Work Week Weather

BRONXVILLE, NY — High heat continues to bake the Hudson Valley. The region continues under a heat advisory, and an air quality alert has been issued for Rockland and Westchester counties.

The heat advisory for Westchester County is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The air quality alert is in effect until 11 p.m. Monday.

For Monday and Tuesday, temps are expected to reach the lower to mid 90s, and the high humidity will make it feel like it is near 100 in the metropolitan area during the afternoon hours.

The Hudson Valley received 2-4 inches of rain at the beginning of August.

"So only 4 days into the month… and we’re already seeing some areas near the average rainfall for the entire month," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "But we now go from soaker to sauna."

However, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will increase midweek.

Because of the heat and the air pollution, consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. Take breaks in shaded, cool environments. Hydrate. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.

Here's what the NWS predicts for the work week in southern Westchester:

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 98. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Light south wind.
• Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 95. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.
• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 3 to 7 mph.
• Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Light southwest wind.
• Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.
• Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.
• Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69.
• Friday: Sunny, with a high near 87.
• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.
