Heat Advisory Extended: Bronxville's Work Week Weather

BRONXVILLE, NY — Heat and humidity will continue to wilt the start of September. Heat indexes could again near 99 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms are possible.

The Heat Advisories have been extended till 8 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service says:

Extreme heat can cause illness and death among at-risk population who cannot stay cool. The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

The first time we'll see relief will be Thursday when a cold front comes in.

"But for the next 48 hours… it’s summer in September," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "Make sure you’re planned accordingly."

And we're calling it a cold front because that's what forecasters call it. In reality, temps will be around 80 degrees.

Still, while that's hot, it's 15 degrees cooler than the past week, right about normal for the first week in September.

Here's what the NWS forecasts for the rest of the work week in southern Westchester:

• Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Southeast wind 3 to 8 mph.
• Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind around 6 mph.
• Thursday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 97. West wind around 6 mph.
• Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. North wind 3 to 7 mph.
• Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.
• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.
