India Center's Children's Talent Show

India Center acts as the nerve center of Indian Americans in Westchester and brings to the community the rich and ancient heritage of India. The Center provides opportunities to learn the various Indian Languages besides music, dance and other arts. A visit to the Center on a weekend and one can witness the vibrant community. India Center can justifiably be proud of providing a conducive ambience for the healthy and all-round growth of children who are the future citizens and ambassadors to the world at large.

One of the regular and highly popular yearly events is the Children’s Talent Show. This was held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Yonkers Riverside Public library. The children put up an extraordinary performance and showcased all that they had learnt at the Center through the years. The program started with the singing of National Anthems of United States and India. The program  encompassed a wide spectrum of cultural items covering vocal music specialized  in different parts of India, classical dances  like Bharata Natyam  and Kathak  besides the very popular Bollywood dance  numbers, folk dance, etc. Children also showed their versatility on instrumental music like Key Board, Mrudangam, a percussion instrument familiarized in the Southern part of India. Recitation of poems and singing of bhajans (devotional songs) were also part of the variety of items presented. It was indeed a thoroughly enjoyable evening. A few pictures taken on the occasion depicts the nuances of the items that were on show by the children. A word of praise for the teachers who have worked hard through the year to bring the children to this standard of performance would be well in order.
