Police said, in the early morning hours of June 27, 2016, on Aqueduct Avenue in the Bronx, Ramos confronted his victim in the elevator of her building and, at gunpoint, forced her into his car. He then drove her north on the Thruway into Yonkers. Ramos said he intended to kill her and then himself.
He then punched her in the head.

As his car approached the Yonkers Toll Plaza, the woman tried to unbuckle her seat belt to try to escape. Ramos drove through the toll without paying and reached for the gun he had placed in his lap, pointing it at the woman.
She then pulled the steering wheel to the right, causing the car to crash in order to avoid being shot. The car continued to veer out of control as Ramos fired his gun four tines.
Three shots went through the windshield and a fourth hit the steering wheel.
As the woman tried to get control of the gun, Ramos bit her arm.
He then fled from the car and ran into the woods near the Ardsley Rest Area.
Police found him hiding in a shed in Hastings-on-Hudson after a nine-hour manhunt.
The woman suffered a fractured rib which pierced her lung causing it to collapse. She also had two additional rib fractures and multiple bruises and welts. She was admitted to White Plains Hospital and was discharged three days later.
