LI Plastic Surgeon Indicted On Weapons Charges

Authorities said he should be arraigned next week.

TUCKAHOE, NY — The Long Island plastic surgeon who was arrested after being found with a large cache of weapons in Tuckahoe was indicted recently by a grand jury.

Dr. Matthew Bonanno was indicted on felony weapons charges and is set to be arraigned Tuesday in Westchester County Court, according to the Journal News.

Bonanno's attorney, Paul Gentile, said the doctor's estranged wife was not called to testify in front of the grand jury.

Police said the 47-year-old Great Neck, Nassau County, resident had made threats against his estranged wife, who lives in Tuckahoe.

On Aug. 12, someone who heard the threats called the police who went to Growler's Beer Bistro in Tuckahoe, where Bonanno was at the time.

Police said they found him to be illegally in possession of a loaded Glock semi-automatic handgun, and he was taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the doctor's car led to the discovery of other weapons, including five assault rifles that were fully loaded with high capacity magazine, three handguns, more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition, a stun gun, heavy ballistic body armor, handcuffs, brass knuckles and scopes, binoculars and other paraphernalia.

Other weapons were found at his Long Island residence and a home in Mount Pleasant.
