Marathon Effort Raises Money for The Chapel School Scholarship Fund
Bronxville, NY- On Sunday, November 2, 2014, four members of Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School community ran the TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of scholarships for the Chapel School students. The Team Coach and Senior Pastor of the Church and School, Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell, helped form the charity run several years ago. Speaking about the dedication of the runners, he said, “I was so impressed by the courage and determination of our runners who braved the cold and the wind, all for the sake of scholarships for the most deserving students.” Runners are given a goal of raising at least $3,000. According the Development Office Program Manager, Kim Zwisdak, “All money raised for Team Chapel Marathon goes to help support scholarship assistance for deserving students that otherwise may not be able to attend the Chapel School. In these tough economic times, we hate to see anyone get left behind and are so grateful for the runners and their dedicated to our school and students.” Team Chapel’s runners for 2014 included: George Heath, Randy Watkins, Anderson Kenny, and Dave Porter. “I had a great time! Randy Watkins was the 10th fastest finisher from CT,” stated George Heath.
The private, Christian day school has received gifts and pledges of almost $11,000. Principal of the school, James Dhyne, shared his thankfulness for the gifts received. “Gifts continue to be recorded. Team Chapel did a fantastic job and the money raised will go a long way in meeting the needs of our deserving students.” Donations are still being accepted.
