Mary Denning Scholarship Established in Eastchester

The Eastchester Irish-American Social Club has created a new scholarship to honor the memory of Mary Denning who passed away in 2010. Denning believed in the Irish community and helping children attain their goal of graduating college.

The recipients of the scholarship are Seniors Katie Phelan, Michael Kenny, Kevin Teahan, Alex Fitzpatrick, Conor Geraghty, Brendan O’Neil, Michael Denning and Christopher and Matthew Colavita. The winners of the scholarship were selected by a random drawing. All of them are either enrolled in Tuckahoe, Bronxville or Eastchester High and have parents who are involved with the Club.

"The Fund's mission is to recognize local students for their contribution to the Eastchester Irish community and their academic achievement," said Eastchester Irish-American Social Club Trustee Margaret Murtagh. "This scholarship has been established to keep Mary Denning's spirit alive and to promote her strong love of Ireland, its rich culture, the importance of education and love of family and friends in the Town of Eastchester, especially the members of The Eastchester Irish American Social Club."

The Scholarship Fund was created by members of the Social Club, as well as its friends and family.
