Queens Man Had 'Magic' Mushrooms: NYSP
Police said the mushrooms were found after a car was stopped on the Thruway for a traffic violation.
YONKERS, NY — A Queens man was accused of having "magic" mushrooms when he was stopped for a traffic violation. The New York State Police said Richard S. Ortiz Cando, 22, of East Elmhurst, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (possession of a hallucinogenic substance), a felony.
Police said, around 1 p.m. Thursday, troopers stopped a car on I-87 in Yonkers for a vehicle and traffic violation.
While speaking with the driver, police said they determined probable cause to search the car and its occupants.

Ortiz Cando was found to have about 6 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, police said.
He was arrested and taken to the Tarrytown barracks for processing

After being arraigned in the Town of Greenburgh Court, he was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the City of Yonkers Court Aug. 27.
