On Friday, April 23, preschoolers at St. Joseph Parish Elementary School (SJS), in Bronxville participated in a Trike-A-Thon to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The inaugural event raised almost $300 for the charity and provided an opportunity for the school’s three- and-four-year-old students to enjoy a healthy, outdoor activity. The fundraiser was organized by teachers Lorraine Disanto (PreK-3), and Rachel Feldmeth (PreK-4).
Students provided their own trikes, bikes, scooters, and helmets. Preschool parents, John and Jessica Simone, designed and donated tee-shirts for the students, faculty and staff, and each student received a certificate of participation from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
As the preschoolers circled the “course” which was set out along the perimeter of the school parking lot, parents, teachers, and principal, Mary Ellen DeMarzo-Sanchez, M. Ed., cheered them on from a safe distance. Teacher aids, Delia Conlon, Teresa Morales, and Alyssa Sperlongano, were also on hand to ensure a successful and safe event.

“It is important to all of us in the SJS community to never lose sight of how fortunate we are,” said Sanchez. “We feel – and act upon – a deep commitment to serve others as Jesus did.”
