He saw an Ice Bucket Challenge on the social media for the late Anthony Senerchia, of Pelham, and he and Pete Frates, who also had ALS, popularized the challenge as a way to raise donations for The ALS Association and research into the disease.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. There is no known cure for the disease, which usually strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70. About 20,000 Americans currently suffer from the disease.
Quinn is survived by his parents Rosemary and Patrick Quinn, two brothers, a grandmother and a large extended family.
