Training Hand Grenade Found On County Property

County maintenance workers found the device while mowing the property.

TUCKAHOE, NY — A hand grenade was found Monday on county property in Tuckahoe. Westchester County police said it contained no gunpowder and did not pose any safety threat to the public.

The county Hazardous Devices Unit removed the grenade from property near Tuckahoe Road and Garrett Avenue which is part of the Bronx River Parkway Reservation.

Police said the item was a rusted, inert training hand grenade with no explosive material in it.

County maintenance workers found the device around 9:30 a.m. while mowing the property. County and Tuckahoe police secured the area while the bomb squad responded.

The device was examined and determined to be non-hazardous.

A search of the immediate area didn't turn up any other similar items.

Police cleared the scene around 10:30 a.m.
