$168K Income Required For 'Affordable' Brooklyn Homes
Here's your monthly guide to the city's affordable Brooklyn listings. This month, the cheapest Bushwick unit is a $1,700-a-month studio.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — The cheapest "affordable" apartment in Bushwick costs more than $1,700 a month and the only affordable option in Crown Heights comes with a $90,000 minimum salary requirement.
Only 10 percent of the 118 "affordable" Brooklyn apartments available through the city's Mandatory Inclusionary Housing program on Dec. 31 were available to people earning less than the area median income, a Patch analysis shows.
As part of a monthly series that examines what 'affordable' means in Brooklyn, Patch examined the seven Brooklyn listings on NYC Housing Connect — the mayor's affordable housing program, recently criticized by a City Comptroller report for exorbitant prices — available to qualifying New Yorkers on Dec. 31.

The limited number of available units was a big drop from from November's 351 Brooklyn apartments up for grabs and the 789 units available in October.
The best bargain could be found in Bed-Stuy where one lone development was accepting applicants who earn less than area median income.
